Clients and the client portal
If you look after sites for clients, group their monitors by client. Each client can then get its own read-only portal, its own alert contacts and a monthly report.
Adding a client
On the Clients screen, click Add Client and enter a name, and optionally a contact e-mail.
To put a target under a client:
- when you add a monitor, pick the client in the Client field, or create one there with + New client;
- for an existing target, open its Settings tab and choose the client under Group. The target moves with all its monitors.
Targets without a client are in the Default group.
Renaming or deleting a client
Click Manage next to the client. At the top you can change its name and contact e-mail, and see every target under it, each linking to its page.
At the bottom, Delete client offers two ways:
- Delete, keep monitors moves its targets to the Default group, where they keep running.
- Delete with its targets deletes the targets too, the same as deleting each one on its own page.
Either way, portal access, client contacts and the client's alert routing go with it. Monthly reports that were already made stay. The Default group itself cannot be renamed or deleted.
The client portal
The portal is a page where your client sees the state of their own monitors, without an account in PulseKeeper. It is part of the Agency plan and above, and the people you give access to are free and not counted as team members.
Click Manage next to a client, enter the e-mail address of someone at the client and click Send invitation. They get an e-mail with a link to the portal.
Signing in needs no password. The link in the e-mail works once and expires after 30 minutes; after that they stay signed in on that device. Next time they ask for a new link on the portal's sign-in page by entering their address. The page answers the same way whether or not an address has access, so it does not reveal who your clients are.
What they see:
- whether everything is up right now, or a maintenance is in progress;
- each monitor of that client with its uptime for the last 90 days and the server's response time;
- incidents of the last 30 days: only confirmed ones, with how long they lasted and the cause, if you wrote one;
- their monthly reports, to download.
What they do not see: other clients, prices, your plan, settings, check intervals, locations, or suspected outages that were never confirmed. They cannot change anything.
The list in Manage shows when each person last opened the portal. Remove ends their access; an open session ends on their next page load.
The portal carries your agency's name. With white-label it shows your logo instead of ours, and with a custom domain it opens on your own address.
Alerts for a client
By default, a client's alerts go wherever the account's alerts go. On the Agency plan and above you can send them somewhere else, for example to the client's IT address and your agency's Slack. In Manage → Alerts:
- Add a client contact: an e-mail address at the client. We send it a confirmation link, and it receives alerts only after someone opens it.
- Choose Only the channels below and tick where this client's alerts go: any of the account's channels and the client's own contacts.
- Click Save alert routing.
Note: Adding the first contact switches to Only the channels below by itself and keeps the channels the account already used, so you do not stop getting your own alerts. At least one channel has to stay ticked.
Each channel's own threshold still applies (see thresholds, quiet hours and reminders). A client contact does not appear on the account's channel list. Like the rest of the account sends the client's alerts back to the account's channels; the contacts are kept but receive nothing.
Language
Each client has a Language in Manage. E-mails to the client (portal sign-in links, monthly reports) and their PDF reports are in that language. The portal screen itself and alerts to client contacts do not follow this setting yet.
