Team and security

Invite your colleagues so they see the same monitors and can act on alerts, and protect your account with two-factor authentication. All of it is under Settings.

Roles

  • Owner. Everything an admin can do, and gives or takes ownership. A team can have several owners and always has at least one.
  • Admin. Manages monitors, alerts and the team: invites people, changes roles, removes members. Changes team settings and branding.
  • Member. Manages monitors and alerts. Cannot invite or remove people or change team settings.

Only an owner can make someone an owner or remove an owner. To hand a team over, make the other person an owner, then step down or leave.

Inviting people

  1. Open Settings → Team.
  2. Under Invite someone, enter the e-mail address and pick Admin or Member. Ownership is given after someone joins.
  3. Click Send invitation. They get an e-mail with a link.
  • The invitation is valid for 7 days. Resend sends a fresh link (the old one stops working); Withdraw cancels it.
  • Only the owner of that e-mail address can accept: the person has to sign in or sign up with the invited address, also with Google or GitHub. Signed in with a different address, they are asked to switch.
  • A pending invitation takes a seat, so your plan's limit cannot be exceeded by invitations sent ahead. An invitation that expires frees its seat. The number of seats in use is shown at the top of the Team tab.

Leaving and removing

Leave team on your own row takes you out of the team; you lose access to its monitors and alerts. Remove on someone else's row does the same for them, right away. The last owner cannot leave or step down until someone else is an owner.

If you belong to several teams, switch between them under Your teams on the Profile tab. The dashboard shows one team at a time.

Two-factor authentication

  1. On the Security tab, under Two-factor authentication, click Set up two-factor and confirm your password.
  2. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (1Password, Google Authenticator, Authy…), or type the key shown under it.
  3. Enter the 6-digit code the app shows and click Turn on.

Warning: Save the recovery codes that appear, for example in your password manager. Each one works once if you lose your phone, and we show them only then. New recovery codes replaces them; the old ones stop working.

From then on, signing in with a password asks for a code from the app, or a recovery code. The Two-factor column on the Team tab shows who in your team has it on.

Two-factor protects password sign-in. If you sign in only with Google or GitHub, set a password first; those accounts have their own two-factor.

Password and other devices

  • Changing your password signs out every other device.
  • Other devices on the Security tab signs out everywhere except here, for example a computer you no longer use. It asks for your password.
  • No password yet? If you signed up with Google or GitHub, you can Set a password on the Security tab. It is your way back in if you ever lose access to that account.

Changing your e-mail address on the Profile tab needs a confirmation from the new address before you can use the dashboard again, because alerts go there.

Team settings

On the Organization tab owners and admins set the team name and time zone. The time zone decides where a day and a month start: for monthly client reports, SMS credits and the daily bars on status pages and in the client portal, and it is the default for new maintenance windows. Each maintenance window keeps its own time zone.

The same tab sets which IP version checks use, see allowlisting.
